Am I a Hipster? (NaPoWriMo Day 17)

Standard

NPR tells me chickens are cool.
Urbanites get them, then play the fool,
dropping them off at the animal shelter
when they no longer lay or end up as fellers.
Victoria is noisy and aging (two peewees??),
but she’s going nowhere—she’s our little sweetie!

Yesterday’s prompt from Poetic Asides was to write a “pop culture” poem. Incidentally, Robert Lee Brewer (the host of Poetic Asides) posted an article this week titled “What Is the Value of Poetry?” It’s worth a look.

  1. You’re not a hipster, you’re a chickster. And the chicken is very cute. On the not-so-good but chicken-related side, our Hamlet and Harriet got hold of one of the neighbor’s chickens and, you guessed it, off with its head. No ruffled neighborly feathers, apparently, but we do feel terrible about it. Sigh.

    • I am SO not a hipster!! Way too old and out of touch with popular culture for that!! Sorry to hear about the neighbor’s chicken. Can’t really blame the dogs though–they were just being dogs. In unison…sigh.
